Was your home built more than 30 years ago? Just because your lights work and the outlets do their job, it doesn’t mean your wiring is safe. A lot of homes still rely on outdated wiring that can’t support modern technologies. Mr. Electric is here to help you identify risks early so you can make smart upgrades that will improve your safety and increase efficiency. We provide dependable services for local clients, including whole house electrical wiring in San Jose, California. Keep reading to learn about the warning signs and the steps involved in a full electrical upgrade or remodel.
One of the biggest problems with old electrical systems is that they were never designed to meet today’s energy demands. If your circuit breakers trip too often, or you’re relying heavily on power strips and extension cords, your wiring may be overloaded. Look around your outlets and switches. Are there scorch marks or a burning smell? Do they feel warm to the touch? These are clear signs that your wiring needs attention. Another common red flag is knob-and-tube wiring. This type of system was common in homes built before 1940 and lacks grounding, which increases the risk of shocks and fires. Aluminum wiring was used widely in the 1960s and 70s, too, and it can pose safety concerns if it isn’t properly maintained. If your home still has either of these systems, it’s time to call a qualified electrician. Don’t wait for a problem to force your hand. A proactive inspection can reveal outdated wiring before it causes damage.

PrintI am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding service I recently received from your company. From my initial phone call to the completion of the repair, every aspect of the experience was exemplary. The representative I spoke with was not only incredibly helpful in scheduling an appointment promptly – my kitchen outlet had inexplicably stopped working, causing considerable inconvenience – but also demonstrated a thorough understanding of my situation. Their professionalism and efficiency immediately put me at ease. The electrician who arrived at my home was equally impressive. They took the time to explain the problem clearly and concisely, patiently answering all my questions despite my limited knowledge of electrical systems. This detailed explanation allowed me to fully understand the necessary repairs and the process involved. Their expertise and calm demeanor were truly reassuring. In short, I was deeply impressed by the overall professionalism, knowledge, and friendliness of every individual I interacted with. The entire experience was seamless and stress-free, a rarity these days. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend your company to anyone requiring electrical services, and I will certainly be using your services again in the future.
I finally made the switch from gas to electric and bought myself a Tesla. The home charger was expensive (I went with level 2) and called Mr Electric to do the install. They were overall great, came the same day to give me an estimate the price seemed reasonable so I went ahead and signed their work order on an iPad the gentleman had. They told me they could start the work the next day, that was unexpected but nice, as I am excited to be able to use my home charger finally. Once they finished the work they provided the permit information and all. I was very pleased and my charger is now in my garage working perfectly. Thank you Galen and Cris for prompt and professional service, that isn’t always the case and it is much appreciated.
My electric garage door stopped working suddenly after using it manually for a couple of weeks I was ready to buy a new one and called this company. They came the next day and were even able to supply the machine, that was a nice surprise. The electrician was friendly and I appreciate them making the whole experience easy. Great job
This company is great, they helped me when no other company I called could. I have been trying to install a few outdoor/indoor sconces on my patio, I called a couple of electricians they said that the way my townhouse was built they could not be installed. I was determined so I called Mr Electric & they came out the next day and explained that it would be a difficult install, but not impossible. In two days they had all three sconces up and running. They weren’t even expensive either, I was very impressed by them. If you have a hard or seemingly impossible job don’t give up like I almost did, give them a call.
Are you remodeling a kitchen, finishing a basement, or building an addition? Don’t make the mistake of slapping new drywall over an old electrical system. Any renovation is the perfect time to schedule an electrical upgrade in San Jose. With walls open, electricians can more easily replace old circuits, run new lines, and install up-to-code outlets, lighting, and smart home components. This can save time and money compared to tackling the work later. Common upgrades during remodels include:
It’s also a great time to plan for future tech like electric vehicle chargers, solar panel systems, or smart switches. If you're considering a whole house electrical wiring in San Jose project, timing it with a remodel is one of the most cost-effective ways to get the job done.
Upgrading your wiring can also cut energy waste. Newer wires and circuits handle loads more efficiently and reduce the amount of heat and power loss across your system. If you're dealing with frequent dimming lights or overloaded outlets, chances are your system is struggling to keep up. Rewiring can help distribute electricity more evenly to improve performance and help your appliances last longer. Energy-efficient upgrades might include:
Some homes also benefit from installing subpanels to reduce strain on the main panel and allow more precise control over different zones of the house. While these changes aren’t as glamorous as new countertops or tile, they make a huge difference in energy use over time.
Waiting for your wiring to fail isn’t worth the risk. Whether you're planning a full remodel or just wondering if your old panel can handle one more device, getting an inspection from an electrician is a smart first step. If you're tackling whole-house electrical wiring in San Jose, California, call Mr. Electric. Our experienced electricians have the experience and tools to do the job right, whether it’s a simple repair or a full-scale rewiring project.
